I recently attended a media-tasting event at Swiss Chalet with Jojoinstameets to try out some their new menu items. When I first heard most of the new menu items were fry related, I’ll be honest, I was a little worried I wouldn’t like them very much. I rarely dine in at Swiss Chalet and by the time delivery Swiss Chalet fries make it to your home, in my experience, they aren’t always crispy.
This was not at all the case when we dined in, not a single soggy fry was had! I’m skipping ahead though, before trying the food I learned more about Swiss Chalet’s commitment towards the elimination of food waste. I was happy to hear their initiative has been very successful.
Swiss Chalet has nearly eliminated all of their food-waste while being able to give back to their community.
The executive chef also talked about how the famous rotisserie chicken is prepared simply with no added fat in the cooking process. The fries are fresh-cut each day and are never cooked from frozen.
I was feeling proud about this Canadian restaurant, and even more so after I tried their new menu items!
Swiss Chalet has introduced three new poutines: Rotisserie Beef, Chicken Shawarma, and Taco Poutines. They’ll be available for a limited time in stores across Canada. The Rotisserie Beef features a generous portion of slow-roasted rotisserie beef, cheddar cheese, green onions and gravy. The beef was lightly spiced and very tender. Cheddar cheese and green onions is a winning combo in my books!
The Taco Poutine is topped with rotisserie chicken, ancho sauce, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, sour cream and famous Chalet Sauce. Expect a nice big portion of chicken! The ancho sauce is very tasty and was a nice compliment to the Chalet sauce.
My favourite was the Shawarma poutine topped with: rotisserie chicken, feta cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, garlic aioli, Chalet Sauce and spiced with a lemon pepper seasoning. I loved the garlic aioli and the feta alongside the generous chunks of chicken!
Next up were the wings, pictured with BBQ sauce, Sweet Chilli sauce and Sour-Cream.
Other sauce options include: Mild, Medium, Hot, Honey-Buffalo, and Honey-Garlic. The wings being tasty wasn’t a surprise, but the sauces being exceptional was! I love me a good sauce and after trying the first two I had to go back and try the rest. My favourites were the BBQ and Honey-Buffalo. Since I’m not a a die-hard Chalet Sauce fan, I was excited to discover that I can ask for any one of these delicious sauces with my rotisserie chicken next time I dine-in (=
Now for the big finale, the wild-card… Dessert Fries! My expectations were blown way out of the water with this dish. Fries topped with ice-cream didn’t entice me right away, I was hesitant.
But these weren’t just regular fries! They’re dipped in a pancake batter and deep-fried to a delightful crisp.
The center is nice and soft, and with the cinnamon topping, the fries are reminiscent of a mini churro.
The dark chocolate sauce isn’t over-powering or too sweet; and the vanilla ice-cream is high quality, the perfect addition to this dish!
I highly recommend the dessert fries and would rate them a 4.7/5.
Swiss Chalet can be a great choice when you’re eating out and trying to stick to your meal-plan. The Quarter Chicken Dinner with white meat, for example, only has 210 calories and a whopping 48g of protein! Add a salad as your side and you have a great healthy option. And with their new menu-items Swiss Chalet can also be the perfect cheat-day destination. A satisfying meal either way.
